Noteboom shines in opening night of the North Star Series in Fairmont

FAIRMONT, Minnesota - (June 8th)  A fantastic night of racing kicked off tour stop number one of ten in the North Star Series presented by Powder Werks of Lake Crystal.  With 31 Modifieds checked in and more than 100 cars in the 5 IMCA classes,  the large crowd on hand seen Nate Coopman and Devin Smith remain undefeated at the big half mile for the 2012 season.  Dustin Larson followed up last week's victory by again taking the top honors in the Stock Car division, Tad Reutzel picked up the hardware in a hard fought Sport Mod battle, and Jay Noteboom used a top side restart to take the lead and run away with the Modified feature win.

Defending Sport Compact National Champion, Nate Coopman, looked good as usual sweeping the night.  Aaron Betz took the runner-up to Coopman in both the heat and feature.  The rest of the top five were Jason Bolte, Terry Blowers, and Megan Lappegard.

The Hobby Stock feature was dominated by Iowa cars with Josh Peters and John Briggs battling for the top spot early on as Devin Smith was moving forward from his 6th row starting spot.   It was only a matter of time before Smith would work his #81 machine past both of them to take the lead and run away with the win.  The rest of the top 5 were Briggs, Peters, Kimpton, and Luinenburg.

The Sport Modified feature was a dandy with hard fought battle between Mathew Looft, Josh Bonnsetter, and Tad Reutzel.   Bonnsetter took the early lead but Looft had his car working on the bottom to drive into the lead.   Bonnsetter found some bite on the top of turns 3 and 4 to regain the lead.     With a late race caution as the laps wound down, Reutzel took advantage of the restart and took over the top spot to go on to pick up his second Fairmont feature win of the year.

In the IMCA Stock Car Feature Dustin Larson drew the pole position and maintained the number one spot the entire race with Derek Green following a close second for the entire 15 laps.   The battle from 3rd on back was were the action was with Jim Larson and Don Killen doing battle as they raced to the front from the 5th row.   Killen and Larson got together going into turn three while challenging for fifth resulting in both cars going to the trailers before the finish.   Meanwhile the top two spots remained unchanged as Dustin Larson took the checkers followed by Green, Sathoff, Altenburg, and Wannarka coming from 13th.

Fairmont veteran and modified legend, Mark Noble drew the pole for Yeager Implement Night as the top twelve spots were determined by redraw and the remaining six rows from the B-main.  As they came to the green it was outside pole sitter, Josh Ruby who took the lead and set the early pace with the 7n machine of Jay Noteboom coming on strong.    After a couple of back to back cautions with Ruby sitting alone in the front,  it was Noteboom choosing the second row, outside, restart that helped him make the pass on the #30 machine of Ruby.  Once in the lead, Noteboom wasn't challenged but the racing was fierce farther back with Eric Dailey and Mike Hansen charging to the front after both qualifying out of the B-Feature.  A late race yellow in the 20 lap feature created a green, white, checkered, restart but the #7 of Eric Dailey  did not have enough to take a legit shot at Noteboom as he settled for second, Mike Hanson, Roger Neilsen, and Tim Pessek rounded out the top five.
